Privacy Policy

Civcampus collects information needed to operate, secure, moderate, and maintain the platform.

Account information

Civcampus may collect:

• school email address;
• campus affiliation;
• chosen display name;
• account identifier;
• role information, such as member, moderator, administrator, official responder, or group officer where applicable;
• terms, privacy, safety, and age acknowledgment records;
• authentication and session information.

Civcampus does not require users to separately enter a legal name during ordinary account creation. However, school email addresses may contain or reveal a user’s real name, and Civcampus treats school email addresses as personal information.

User content

Civcampus may collect content users submit, including:

• issue reports;
• comments, voices, support, votes, signatures, or status updates;
• petitions, campaigns, group information, and organization requests;
• correction requests, takedown requests, privacy requests, and moderation appeals;
• uploaded files, screenshots, images, or documents if uploads are enabled.

Users should not submit unnecessary private, identifying, sensitive, or legally protected information about themselves or others.

Technical and security information

Civcampus and its service providers may collect technical and security information, such as:

• IP address;
• request path;
• timestamps;
• browser or device information;
• user agent;
• authentication events;
• rate-limit events;
• security logs;
• error logs;
• abuse-prevention signals.

Cookies and similar technologies

Civcampus uses cookies or similar technologies for authentication, account security, session management, and essential platform functions. Civcampus does not use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Sensitive information

Civcampus does not intentionally ask users to provide government identification numbers, biometric identifiers, financial account information, precise device geolocation, or similar sensitive information during ordinary account creation.

Because Civcampus allows free-form submissions, users may voluntarily include sensitive information in reports, comments, takedown requests, appeals, or other content. Civcampus may process that information as needed to operate the platform, respond to requests, moderate content, enforce policies, comply with law, and protect users.

Civcampus may use information to:

• create and authenticate accounts;
• verify campus affiliation;
• operate, secure, and maintain the platform;
• publish user-submitted content according to platform settings;
• review content for policy compliance;
• moderate reports, comments, groups, petitions, campaigns, and uploaded materials if enabled;
• respond to correction, takedown, privacy, copyright, and safety requests;
• detect spam, abuse, impersonation, threats, and security issues;
• enforce the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines;
• maintain audit, moderation, safety, and security records;
• communicate service, account, safety, and policy notices;
• respond to legal requests;
• comply with applicable law.

Civcampus does not sell personal information. Civcampus does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Published content is visible according to Civcampus’s access settings. At launch, campus records may be limited to verified users associated with a participating campus.

Published content may be copied, screenshotted, archived, linked, or redistributed by others. Civcampus cannot control copies outside the platform.

Moderation review does not mean Civcampus verifies the legal truth of a post. Civcampus moderation is a policy-compliance process.

Civcampus may allow users to post without showing their display name publicly. This does not make the post anonymous to Civcampus.

Authorized Civcampus moderators, administrators, and system personnel may retain the ability to associate a post with the submitting account for moderation, safety, legal compliance, abuse prevention, and enforcement.

To other users

Civcampus displays published content according to the platform’s access settings and user-selected visibility options.

To moderators and administrators

Authorized Civcampus moderators and administrators may access account, content, moderation, and safety information as needed to operate the platform, enforce rules, respond to abuse, review appeals, handle legal requests, and protect users.

To official responders

Where available, verified official responders may post official replies or updates. Official responders do not receive access to nonpublic poster identity information unless Civcampus expressly discloses and implements such a feature.

To service providers

Civcampus may use service providers for hosting, authentication, storage, security, email, bot prevention, logging, reliability, and content-safety tools. These may include Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare, email providers, and content-safety or moderation API providers if enabled.

For legal, safety, and security reasons

Civcampus may preserve, access, or disclose information when it reasonably believes doing so is required or appropriate for:

• legal compliance;
• valid legal process;
• security;
• fraud or abuse prevention;
• policy enforcement;
• protection of users or others;
• copyright compliance;
• child safety reporting;
• nonconsensual intimate image response;
• emergency or threat response.

Where legally permitted and appropriate, Civcampus may notify affected users of legal requests. Civcampus may object to or challenge requests it believes are legally defective, overbroad, or inconsistent with protections for pseudonymous speech.

Users may request access, correction, deletion, or review of certain personal information by contacting team@jyvo.app.

Civcampus may need to verify the requester’s identity before responding. Civcampus may deny, limit, or retain information where permitted or required by law, including for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, enforcement, moderation history, or preservation of the Civcampus record.

Civcampus does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Civcampus does not disclose personal information to third parties for those third parties’ direct marketing purposes.

Civcampus does not track users across unrelated third-party websites to build advertising profiles. Some browsers transmit “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals. Because Civcampus does not sell or share personal information for behavioral advertising, Civcampus does not change the service in response to those signals at this time.

Civcampus retains information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the platform, maintain the campus record, protect safety and security, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce policies.

Published contributions may remain as part of the Civcampus record even if an account is later deleted or de-attributed.

When an account is deleted, Civcampus may revoke sign-in access, remove or de-link account attribution, replace public attribution with a deleted-user label, and remove or de-link the school email from ordinary account records according to the platform’s deletion process.

Deleted or de-linked information may remain for a limited period in backups, logs, caches, security records, legal records, or service-provider systems before deletion according to applicable retention practices.

Civcampus uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted transport, access controls, role-based permissions, and database security controls.

No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Civcampus accounts are intended for users who are at least 18 years old and affiliated with a participating university.

Users may not create or use a Civcampus account if they are under 18.

If Civcampus learns that an account belongs to a user under 18, Civcampus may suspend or terminate the account and process related content according to applicable law.

Civcampus may update this Privacy Policy. The current version will show the effective date and last updated date.

If a change materially affects how Civcampus handles personal information, Civcampus will provide additional notice where appropriate or required. Where required, Civcampus may request renewed agreement or acknowledgment.
